H13 : Ari Lehman - First Jason
by Gaz E
(Excerpts)
It's no secret that I am an alucard carrying horror nerd. Last year, for the first Über Röck Halloween, I wanted to interview someone special, someone who walked the twisted line between horror and music and who could provide a suitably entertaining article for my favourite time of year......so I contacted Ari Lehman.
ÜR: Who is the greatest ever Scream Queen?
AL: Now THAT really is a loaded question. Maila Nurmi, VAMPIRA, is my vote. I was fortunate to have composed, performed and recorded the original score for the independent film VAMPIRA: THE MOVIE before she passed away. The film got THE RONDO HATTON CLASSIC HORROR AWARD for BEST INDEPENDENT FILM of 2007 and in it, Maila tells her life story. Absolutely FASCINATING!

Monsters of Art
(Excerpts)
[The art Scott Jackson refers to is this poster for the Vampira: The Movie Bash on February 4, 2007.]Scott Jackson is a talented artist who is truly inspired by the world of horror. His website, MonstermanGraphic.com, showcases the work he has done for several bands and musicians, such as Kiss and Megadeth, along with the custom artwork and logo designs he's done for many publications. Jackson also runs The Monster Store, where he sells T-shirts sporting his designs as well as incredible posters depicting many horror icons. In this interview, he discusses when art changed from a hobby to a career, the origins of both his websites and other ventures and what his future holds.
FANGORIA: Tell us about the origins of MonstermanGraphic.com.
. . .
It was a little over four years ago, after a chance meeting with Ari Lehman—Jason Voorhees from the first FRIDAY THE 13TH—that I decided to try a new studio name and website. Ari brought me to my first horror convention, and at that event I was commissioned by none other than Tom Savini, The Lurking Corpses, and the Dark Carnival Film Festival. Soon after, it was VAMPIRA: THE MOVIE art, Texas Fearfest, Monster-Mania website design and so on. Monsterman is definitely my calling.
Cinemassacres (book), published July 5, 2010
Fans of Forrest J Ackerman, the late sci-fi expert, promoter and number one fan, have a new source of information. In David Byron's fifth non-fiction book, Cinemassacres: A Tribute to Forrest J Ackerman and 1980s Horror Films, he has assembled a vast array of special guests from the TV, film, and fiction industries, some who knew Forrest J Ackerman personally, some who just wish to pay homage to the man fondly known as "Uncle Forry," and some who had never met Forry but had always been fans of his work. Also known as "Mr. SciFi," Forrest J Ackerman made a literary, historical breakthrough for fans of scifi and horror when he released the first issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland in February of 1958.
Vampira: The Movie director Kevin Sean Michaels is interviewed in the book about Vampira: The Movie and his friendship with Forry himself.
